The Elfrida Society Request
Founded over 100 years ago, the Elfrida Society has a strong record of campaigning for inclusivity and against injustice for people with learning disabilities. We aim to make it possible for people with learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties to manage as much of their lives as they want and feel able to do. We continue to pioneer this cause by delivering high-quality services and support to people with LDs, including a well-established supported employment service, staffed by a team of empowered individuals with LDs and family carers who bring added value and unique life experiences to the service. People with learning disabilities, their families and carers face many challenges because of reduced government spending and changes in policy, including changes to welfare support, the complexity of the benefits system and lack of appropriate activities and services. The impact of Covid-19 emergency has significantly exacerbated these challenges further.
What are they looking for?
We are looking for TECH support to develop a new App create accessible/easy read online forms for people with learning disabilities. The impact of the COVID-19 shielding, and lockdown is having a significant impact on the people with learning disabilities we support, as they have been disproportionately disadvantaged by their lack of access to technology and their capacity to use devices to remain engaged with service providers, social networks, and community support. We have developed several easy read forms, questionnaires and information packs to help our supported employees to do their job and our beneficiaries to access information, but they are not yet easily accessible to complete on-line. The ideal candidate will be an experienced App developer, who has the time, empathy, and commitment to work with our managers and employees with learning disabilities to develop the App and explore innovative IT solutions.
Timeframe:Ideally, within the next 6-months - without any realistic prospect of a return to a safe face-to-face service delivery model, people with LDs who are too often failed by services because they do not understand the systems or information provided, will continue to suffer and be unfairly disadvantaged .
